Review

"For those in search of peaceful, healing music I highly recommend this recording to anyone looking for peaceful, healing music. I am a professional massage therapist who has played this CD during massage sessions. It seems to produce a soothing effect on both the client and has enhanced my skills as well. These beneficial effects were noticed by another massage therapist receiving a massage at the time. I regret that it is no longer in stock and look forward to the time when it becomes available again."

Review

"Island of Bows is a place to refresh the musical imagination. Carlos Nakai has taken the music of his Native American wood flutes to varied places in his 16 previous recordings. He's played with symphony orchestras and on film soundtracks. For this album, he travelled to Japan to collaborate with several guest artists and members of the Wind Travelin' Band, who play traditional Japanese instruments. The result is a blend of diverse musics and backgrounds into a new and intriguing result. All compositions are by Nakai and the Wind Travelin' Band."

Review

"R. Carlos Nakai is well known to aficionados of Native American flute music. This is his seventeenth release, his eighth collaborative effort. Originally trained in classical trumpet, Nakai brings a technique of strong, clear tones to his playing of the traditional cedar flute. This release takes the traditional flute into a new arena of music. Nakai and guitarist William Eaton (who builds the guitars and harp guitars he uses in performance), are joined by talented percussionist Will Clipman who adds an enjoyable dimension to the music, giving it a more world beat, polyrhythmic base. Though Clipman has performed with both Nakai and Eaton individually, this is the first time that all three have brought their talents together. When the cedar flute blends with the lyraharp guitar, didgeridoo, balafon, tablas, and pow wow drums, a most unusual, original, and amazing sound comes forth. Of the 18 compositions on this CD, 16 are by all three collaborators, and two are by Nakai and Eaton."

"The most prominent and prolific voice on Native American flute, Nakai draws on the traditional themes and instrumentation of his Navajo-Ute heritage, achieving remarkably expressive results from the cedar flute..."
