“Queen of the Damned” is an adaptation of Anne Rice's best-selling novel (third volume in the VAMPIRE CHRONICLES series).  The supernatural adventure follows the legendary vampire Lestat, played by Stuart Townsend (originally portrayed by Tom Cruise in the 1994 thriller INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE), who essentially reinvents himself as an up-to-date rock star on the music scene. His music awakens ancient Egyptian Akasha (Aaliyah), from a 6000-year sleep.  As Lestat attempts to convince Akasha through his music that he should be her king, a young woman (Jesse) becomes fascinated by the dark side and falls madly in love with Lestat. Akasha, the queen of all vampires, unleashes her powers of the night in a devious plan to save mankind and destroy Lestat.  Both sensual and erotic, she electrifies all by a power so great that all the immortal vampires must stand against her if they hope to survive her wrath.

(Feb. 12, 2002) **It seems that "Queen Of The Damned," starring the the late Aaliyah could be the hit everyone hoped it would be. At a screening Sunday evening in LA, the audience gave the movie a standing ovation, we're told. The New York Post reports that Anne Rice, the author of the book upon which the movie is based, is also impressed with it and Aaliyah's performance.
